Election Day!

Today is polling day and I want to encourage everyone to get out to vote and support your local Conservative candidate. I have spent a lot of time over the last few weeks knocking on doors talking to local residents ahead of election today. Now it’s here - don’t forget to vote. Polls are open now until 10pm.

We have also reached an incredible milestone of 50 million vaccines across the whole of the UK which is an incredible achievement and reflects the hard work of the NHS as well as the willingness of people to protect the vulnerable and tackle this pandemic head on. I have been incredibly impressed by the take-up in the constituency, with over 75,000 doses of vaccine administered to constituents since the rollout began. All residents aged 40 or over are now able to book an appointment and you can do so through the NHS website. One jab at a time, we will overcome this virus and return to normal as soon as possible.

In the last few weeks, I have been focused on supporting the return of shops and businesses as they reopen in line with the roadmap out of lockdown and I recently wrote to the Leader of Wiltshire Council to use the Government’s Welcome Back Fund to support our high streets in Chippenham, Corsham, Melksham and Bradford on Avon. We are a fortnight away from the next step along the roadmap and I want to make sure local businesses have everything they need to reopen successfully, minimise the risk of transmission for customers and employees alike and ultimately bounce back from this pandemic as best they can.

Knocking on doors with Jacqui Crundell for Melksham South - lots of people heading out to vote for her this afternoon. Jacqui is a fantastic local candidate having served in the armed forces, worked in Melksham schools and now works in adult social care.
Out knocking on doors with Pam Hyde for Holt, Staverton & Atworth. Don’t forget to vote for Pam she is such a determined and diligent candidate.
Out knocking on doors with the fantastic Cllr Johnny Kidney for Winsley & Westwood Division of Wiltshire Council. Don’t forget to vote.
Claire Forgacs is standing in Melksham Forest. Claire will be such a brilliant councillor, she has lived in Melksham for over 20 years and was on the town council for four years. Her passion for the local community speaks for itself.
