Why Camp Diva Leadership Academy exists and is important

Dear, John

Could you imagine how different the world would be if Barbara Johns', Mae Jemison's, and Maggie Walker's lives had ended early?

We will never know what #BlackExcellence or #BlackGirlMagic would have come from Ma'Khia Bryant because police violence ended her life.

On the heels of finally seeing #JusticeforGeorge, a police officer took yet another Black life from us. While Chauvin's guilty verdict is a step in the right direction, it is only the beginning. There is so much more work to do. Here at Girls For A Change, our hearts are broken over the loss of young Ma'Khia. Our mission is to stand in the gaps for Black girls, offer tools, resources, and opportunities while ensuring that their health, wellness, and safety are prioritized.

Let's face it; Black girls are exhausted!

Camp Diva Leadership Academy exists to develop critical life skills, particularly in social relations, empathy, and understanding of self and others. We build confidence through social interaction and skill-building, increase her resilience in the face of setbacks, and help satisfy her need for independence by empowering her to have significant control over her day, all wrapped up in lots and lots of excitement and fun!

Registration for Camp Diva Leadership Academy ([link removed]) is officially open to rising 6th- 8th-grade middle school girls for a six-week, in-person camp experience. Many Black girls have bounced back from a jumbled year and overcome hurdles to finish the year stronger than expected. This summer, Camp Diva will focus on resilience. In simple terms, that means the ability to bounce back when something unexpected or challenging happens in our lives.

Our girls are powerful and resilient ([link removed]) . They will continue to drive the change to dismantle racism and oppression. Our future as a country depends on their success. We need to invest in our Black girls' growth, leadership, and health during this pandemic and beyond. Want to be part of the solution? Consider funding a girl's summer camp fees ([link removed]) so that she can experience all that Girls For A Change has to offer.

Camp Diva is more than a place where girls are just going to have fun. It's a place where Black girls imagine a summer where she can have the time of her life and grow as a person in ways that will impact who she is for the rest of her life. Invest in your daughter's future by sending her to Camp Diva Leadership Academy.
