Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy is taking credit for a bill he voted against. And he's hoping you won't notice. But Nancy Pelosi isn't letting him off that easy. She had this to say in response to McCarthy trying to claim credit for help for the restaurant industry:
Back in March, McCarthy decried President Biden's wildly popular American Rescue Plan as a “socialist” takeover and claimed the bill would turn the U.S. into Venezuela. Now, while the bill he organized his party against is enjoying widespread popularity, he's singing a different tune by taking credit for the bill he voted against.
McCarthy and his party can't have it both ways, and their hypocrisy needs to be called out. They can't make up lies about the bill one day and then take credit for its provisions the next. But then again, maybe they can, because it's working. McCarthy and his members are using the bill's popularity to brag about boosting the economy, show how bipartisan they can be, and raise huge amounts of campaign cash -- all after trying to strike down the bill. We can't let them get away with this hypocrisy.
