Folks, I’ll be spending this Saturday in Mitchell County, one of the most beautiful and also reddest parts of our district.

Too many people have lost faith in politics and government and I can understand why: it has been a bitterly divisive time in our country. That’s why we built this campaign on the pillars of love, hope, and empathy. I’m running for Congress to show that there’s a better way forward for all of us.

It starts with organizing across our district -- every single part of it.

Some people would say there’s no point in holding a campaign event in deep-red Western North Carolina.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but they’re wrong. I’ve heard similar refrains before -- especially when I was organizing for marriage equality in rural communities across the deep South. And I kept hearing those refrains right up until we showed what was possible when our work helped win marriage equality in North Carolina and Mississippi.

Showing up and listening makes a difference. It’s the basis of my work as an organizer and minister, and I couldn’t be more excited to meet folks where they are and see how our values connect. That starts on Saturday in Mitchell County.
