Be part of the Minnesota movement to cancel student debt
Dear John,
From St. Louis County to Cottonwood County, we’re connecting with Minnesotans from across the state to support each other, raise up our stories, and demand student debt cancellation.
Be part of the movement. Sign our petition to cancel student debt.
Student debt is holding Minnesotans down. 2019 graduates in Minnesota had the 11th-highest average student loan debt in the country. Minnesota ranked 5th in the nation in the percentage of 2019 graduates with student loan debt, at 66 percent.
Even before COVID-19, one million new student debtors were defaulting on their student loans every year — and this crisis is impacting Black and brown Americans the most. A group of 17 Attorneys General have united to demand student debt cancellation, spotlighting how cancelling federal student loan debt can increase Black and Latinx household wealth, and help close the racial wealth gap.
President Biden has the power to cancel student debt. Across race, gender, and geography, we call on Biden to do the right thing for individuals, families, and communities.
Join our movement, Every County for Student Debt Cancellation, and let’s make it happen. Sign the petition now.
Here's what a few Minnesotans have told us student debt cancellation would mean for them:
-
“Student loans are such a drain on my family, I’ve been paying on them for over 15 years with no end in sight.” - Sarah, St Paul
-
“It's time to forgive all student loans. $50,000 is not enough for many of us old gen-Xers. Eat the rich.” - Jeff, Iron Range
-
“I think people are numb to just how out-of-control the student debt crisis has become. Whenever I tell somebody in my age group I have $15k in student loan debt, more often than not, they’ll respond with, ‘Oh, that’s not that bad - it's just $15k,’ and I think that’s ridiculous. How did it get this bad? ” - Ben, Lakeville
