It has been 2 full months since the House passed the For the People Act (H.R. 1) — the landmark bill that would end right-wing gerrymandering of Congressional districts and make it harder to suppress the right to vote.

This bill would save and strengthen our democracy — and for that reason, Mitch McConnell and dark money Republican groups are working overtime to block the For The People Act and permanently stack the deck in their favor.

While the bill is stalled in the Senate, we’ve seen Georgia, Texas, and — just this past week — Florida prove to us again why it’s needed by passing bills that go so far as to make it illegal to give out water to voters in hours-long lines. These attacks on voting rights are a slap in the face to all Americans, but particularly the communities of color who are affected the most.

It is agonizing to watch this bill languish on the Senate floor while bad faith actors pretend to make good faith arguments for why we should allow the erosion of our democracy to continue.

We must double down on our resolve to get this bill passed, no matter what it takes, including abolishing the filibuster. In a democracy, the people choose their politicians, not the other way around. That’s true whether Mitch McConnell likes it or not.
