Susan Wright Places First in Special Election, Advances to Runoff
Arlington, TX — In the May 1st special election to succeed the late Rep. Ron Wright, Susan Wright (R) holds a commanding first-place lead over her 22 other opponents.

Trump-endorsed Wright will likely advance to a runoff election with State Representative Jake Ellzey (R), who has accepted campaign money from Never Trumper Bill Kristol.

According to results from the Texas Secretary of State ([link removed]) , as of 11:42pm CT with 100% of the vote reporting, Susan is in first place with 15,052 votes (19.2%), followed by Jake Ellzey (R) with 10,851 votes (13.8%), Jana Lynne Sanchez (D) with 10,497 votes (13.4%), and Brian Harrison with 8,476 votes (10.8%).

Susan won 15.73% of the Early/Absentee Vote compared to 23.93% of the Election Day Vote, indicating significant momentum for Susan in the final week of the campaign - when she was endorsed by President Trump, the Club for Growth, and Susan B. Anthony List. By comparison, Ellzey received 15.71% of the Early/Absentee Vote and 11.30% of the Election Day Vote.

Susan Wright released the following statement:
"I can't tell you how honored I am to be the first-place finisher in this special election to succeed my husband Ron. From the beginning, this has been a grassroots campaign -- and I've been so encouraged at the hundreds of endorsements I've picked up across TX-06, culminating with an amazing endorsement from President Trump this past week. I'm looking forward to making my case to voters in the runoff, winning, and representing the 6th District with the true conservative leadership they deserve."
Matt Langston, Wright's General Consultant, released the following statement:
"State Representative Jake Ellzey is an opportunistic ladder-climbing RINO who's taken money from Never-Trumpers like Bill Kristol, bashed our Senator Ted Cruz, and flip-flopped on amnesty. In the few months he's been a State Rep, he's already voted to hike taxes and oppose school choice. Ellzey is now a winless 0-3 against the Wright family after second places finishes to Ron in the 2018 primary, Ron in the 2018 runoff, and now Susan in the 2021 special -- and he's going to make it a clean 0-4 sweep next month in the runoff."

Susan Wright has been endorsed by President Donald J. Trump, the Republican Party of Texas, Club for Growth, Susan B. Anthony List, and Congress Members Andy Biggs, Anthony Garbarino, Chip Roy, Elise Stefanik, Jodey Arrington, Kay Granger, Lance Gooden, Louie Gohmert, Pat Fallon, and Troy Nehls.

Susan has also garnered the support of many local, conservative officials including Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn, Tarrant County GOP Chair Rick Barnes, State Representatives David Cook, Matt Krause, Stephanie Klick, and Tony Tinderholt, dozens of precinct chairs, and hundreds of local activists.

Susan Wright is the widow of the late Rep. Ron Wright. She has been active in Texas politics for decades, serving members of the state legislature, as committeewoman for the State Republican Executive Committee, and on numerous boards in TX-06.
