Second Edition of the Candidate Spotlight Series Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino Rob Astorino is a former two-term Westchester County Executive who currently works as a government affairs, business and media consultant and serves as an independent director on two company boards. Previously, Astorino was a National and Political Affairs contributor for CNN and was appointed by Cardinal Timothy Dolan as his delegate to the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. He was the 2014 Republican nominee for governor, winning 46 of 62 counties and 40% of the vote, the best GOP performance since former Governor Pataki's 2002 reelection. Read more here. Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin As Rensselaer County Executive, Steve McLaughlin has taken action to protect taxpayers, improve county services, support historic job creation and provide a comprehensive and compassionate response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The county has seen three consecutive property tax reductions from three unanimously adopted budgets, an upgrade of the county bond rating to the highest level ever, a series of positive independent audits, and significant savings for personnel and purchasing. McLaughlin has earned a reputation as a hard-working advocate for constituents, overseeing the establishment of the only locally-operated mass COVID-19 testing facility and distribution of a record number of home-delivered meals to seniors.
