Last night in his address to Congress, President Biden said we must provide high-quality affordable child care for all children under the age of 5.

Senator Elizabeth Warren and I are on it — I’m proud to announce that earlier this week, we introduced the Universal Child Care and Early Learning Act , which would ensure universal access to child care and pre-K.

Every family, regardless of income or employment, deserves to have high-quality, affordable child care options from birth to Kindergarten. But across the country, many families have to spend more on child care than they do on food, housing, or health care.

We must pass the Universal Child Care and Early Learning Act to alleviate this burden on low-income families and ensure that all children in this country are well cared for. Become a citizen co-sponsor of our bill by adding your name to our petition. [[link removed]]

I know firsthand how important this bill is for working families. I am the child of a single mother who worked multiple jobs just to get by. When she could not afford the cost of child care, my grandmother would take me to work with her cleaning homes.

Universal child care doesn’t just help working parents. It also sets children from low-income families up to succeed. High-quality child care and pre-K programs help children prepare for school and support their cognitive and behavioral development.

The support that children receive as babies and toddlers can help set them up for success for the rest of their childhood. Without high-quality care, children from low-income families will show up to kindergarten behind their peers from wealthier families.
