Joe Biden is calling on the Senate to immediately pass bills to reduce gun violence in the wake of 66 mass shootings in just the last six weeks, but Joe Manchin still stands in the way.
Despite voters overwhelmingly supporting commonsense gun reform legislation, Senator Manchin has no interest in passing these popular reforms, going so far as to oppose legislation that earned support even amongst Republicans in the House.
That's why Joe Manchin is the NRA's favorite Senate Democrat. Fred Guttenberg, the father of Jaime Guttenberg who died in the Parkland school shooting, said that as a result of Joe Manchin's inaction, “more people will die.”
But if Democrats are to have any hope of passing commonsense gun reform legislation, then we have to abolish the filibuster. Joe Manchin knows this, because even the weak gun reform legislation that he crafted with Republicans was unable to overcome Mitch McConnell's obstruction.
That's why we're ramping up the public pressure on Senator Manchin in his home state of West Virginia. We need $10,000 to make his inaction so uncomfortable that he's forced to do the right thing. We've already started a small run of ads, and the feedback has been hugely positive.
