Hey Friend - do you have a second?
My name is Mike Gallagher and I’m a U.S. Marine veteran, a Congressman, and as of 10 months ago, a first-time father.
When I got the news that I was going to become a father, I was over the moon, extremely excited, and to be honest — a little bit nervous. Hearing the news that you’ll be a parent makes you reevaluate everything about your life, and it places a sharper emphasis on the future.
After I had a moment to calm down, catch my breath, and reflect, I made myself a promise.
I promised that I would use my platform to make sure my child gets to experience the America that I did. I committed that my child would live in a land of unlimited opportunity, a country that is a beacon of hope and freedom for the whole world.
It is going to take hard work to fulfill this promise because America is being challenged –– from both within and outside.
Just this week, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reintroduced the Green New Deal –– an existential threat to America’s energy industry and the thousands of jobs it creates.
No surprise there.
What shocks me is the fact that in the two years since it was first introduced, the Democratic Party has shifted so far to the left that this idea has gone from the radical fringes to becoming a core pillar of their agenda.
The Green New Deal would have far-reaching consequences for every American –– and as I prepare to fight this radical legislation in Congress, I’ve been looking over what kind of impacts this progressive pipe dream would have on my home state of Wisconsin.
The numbers are staggering, Friend. In Wisconsin alone, the Green New Deal would cost:
Friend, I’ll be blunt. This isn’t a deal at all. This is a power grab –– plain and simple.
The Green New Deal would do more to protect the power of the federal government than it would to protect the environment, and America’s energy industry would be effectively destroyed if it were to pass.
Instead of progressive pipe dreams that wipe out energy pipelines, we need to continue investing in common-sense solutions that promote energy independence, create jobs, and empower America’s farmers that are already leading the charge to drive down carbon emissions.
But the truth is, I’ll never be able to stop the Green New Deal alone. We need to work together to stop these Democrat special interests in their tracks –– and that’s why I’m reaching out to you today.
I am counting on you, Friend, and Americans like you, to help me.
But before I ask you to invest in my campaign and give me your support, I want to tell you a little bit about myself, my life, and what I stand for.
I’m a 7th-generation Wisconsinite, U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and a first-time father.
I felt the call to serve our country from an early age and fulfilled a lifelong dream when I joined the Marine Corps the day I graduated from college.
I served seven years of active duty as an intelligence officer focused on the Middle East and North Africa, and was deployed to Iraq twice to command intelligence teams in the field. I loved serving our country in the Marine Corps — it was one of the greatest honors of my life.
But I knew I had more to give and I looked for ways to continue serving so I worked for the National Counterterrorism Center and the Drug Enforcement Agency.
I studied the most severe threats to our nation’s national security and did my best to prepare our country to defend itself against foreign adversaries. But I kept growing frustrated watching the dysfunction in Washington. Congress should be a beacon of democracy and a symbol of hope for the country and the world — instead, Capitol Hill has turned into a physical representation of division and gridlock.
I always knew I wanted to serve my district and fight for the Wisconsin families I grew up with, and the businesses and workers who make up the backbone of the community I am raising my family in. I decided to run for Congress in 2016, and have been trying to fix Capitol Hill ever since.
I ran for Congress because I believe my experience in the military prepared me to lead our district and country into a better future. I know the threats that we face as a country and I’ve spent the majority of my adult life fighting them on the front lines. We need to restore leadership to Capitol Hill now and protect the American Dream for future generations — we can’t afford to wait. This is the greatest challenge I’ve ever faced, and now that I’m a dad, it feels more urgent than ever.
Friend, will you invest in my campaign and help me defend America against threats like the Green New Deal? I want to know if you believe in my mission, and just $10 would make a huge difference to my campaign. Thank you for your time,
