Yesterday, the U.S. Census Bureau released the new population counts in each state nationwide giving us the first chance to see how Congressional redistricting will impact seats in Congress.

The news isn’t good for Democrats.

California will lose a seat. So will Illinois and New York. Meanwhile, Texas, Florida, North Carolina and even Montana will all gain seats. Texas actually gets 2. Here’s the problem, per the New York Times. 

“Republicans control the redistricting process in far more states than Democrats, because of G.O.P. dominance in down-ballot elections.”

That’s right, because Democrats way too often don’t even fight in local down ballot elections, Republicans stand to gain from redistricting, putting them one step closer to winning the 5 seats they need to flip control of Congress in 2021.
