Expose Antisemitism in America

Dear John,
Today we mark the second anniversary of the horrific attack at the Chabad synagogue in Poway, California. As congregants celebrated the final day of Passover, a gunman burst in and opened fire, killing Lori Gilbert-Kaye of blessed memory and wounding three others.

This antisemitic attack, and so many others that came before and after, showed the world what many of us already knew: antisemitism is on the rise once again.

Unfortunately, the past year of lockdowns and suffering has also breathed new life into antisemitic tropes and even bred new strains.

It’s up to all of us to expose and fight antisemitism.

Yet antisemitism can sometimes be difficult to explain or even recognize. AJC’s 2020 State of Antisemitism in America report found that nearly half of all Americans either had never heard the term “antisemitism” or didn’t know what it means.

We need to do all we can to educate our friends and neighbors and even those with whom we interact online about it.

That’s why we have created a brand-new interactive website for AJC’s Translate Hate glossary of antisemitic terms and tropes, which has already been identified as an invaluable resource by leaders across America, including our partners in other faith and ethnic communities and in various government and law enforcement agencies. View the glossary at AJC.org/TranslateHateGlossary.

AJC’s Translate Hate glossary presents visual examples of dozens of antisemitic terms and tropes alongside explanations and important historical and modern context.

Our society must learn how to recognize this ever-shifting hatred if we hope to more effectively combat it, especially online, where it has been able to spread exponentially.

Please bookmark this page and share it, not only with your networks but also with people who may be unwittingly spreading antisemitism.

Together we can identify, expose, and combat antisemitism in all its forms.

Thank you for being our partners in reimagining what’s possible as we work to eradicate antisemitism and all forms of hate.

Sincerely,

Holly Huffnagle
