John,

I’m reaching out today to ask you to make a contribution to my campaign, if your circumstances allow, before our end-of-month deadline — which is this Friday. My team has set a goal to raise $15,000 by then.

Let me explain why a contribution — of any amount — will make a huge difference for our movement (but if you’re ready to give, you can use this link: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mj-em-april-eom).

This has been a very important month for our movement. First, we introduced Policy is Personal PAC to help bold, progressive candidates who come from underrepresented communities fight back against big money and make our representative bodies truly reflective of the American people.

Then, we introduced the Judiciary Act of 2021. This bill would add 4 seats to the Supreme Court, immediately reversing the Republicans’ theft of the Court. Unsurprisingly, Republicans were angry — so much so that Tucker Carlson gave me a vile shoutout full of lies on his FOX News show.

The only way Republicans can hold on to power is if we let them get away with their brazen power grabs over the last several years, so they’re doing everything they can to stop our movement from leveling the playing field.

Then at the end of last week, the House passed legislation to make Washington, D.C. the 51st state and give the 700,000+ Americans living there — most of whom are Black and brown — a say in our democracy.

I have had enough of Republicans’ racist insinuations that the people of Washington, D.C. are somehow unworthy of voting representation in Congress.

Republicans have only bad-faith arguments for denying D.C. statehood — for example, Senator Tom Cotton said D.C. wouldn’t be a “well-rounded, working-class state” like Wyoming. I had no idea there were so many syllables in the word “white.”

Our movement is just getting started, and I am working overtime to pass progressive policies that give working Americans the opportunity to thrive, not just survive.

But in order to keep up this fight, I have to ensure that my re-election campaign has the funds it needs to fight off any primary challengers. Last cycle, the primary field included a self-funded billionaire trying to buy this seat. We have to prepare for that to happen again.

So if you can, please make a donation today to help us hit our $15,000 end-of-month goal so that I can remain focused on championing progressive priorities in Congress, not fundraising for re-election.

This movement is making a lot of people scared, because they are realizing that their white supremacist politics are no longer popular throughout the country. Together, we’ll end that kind of politics for good, but only if we all fight for it.

Onward,
Mondaire
