Friend,

When we founded Strong Future Maryland last year, I believed we could have an impact, but I couldn’t have imagined we’d end up here. I am so proud of what we’ve accomplished alongside advocates and legislators:

1. 23 of our priority bills passed ([link removed]) .
2. We provided testimony on 66 bills.
3. We received over 225 community stories and public comments. (Thanks to you all!)

It was not easy to do -- especially with the COVID-19 pandemic adjustment to a virtual session -- and it required many late nights of hard work. But, together, we have built an unmistakable movement to protect Maryland’s future with our advisory council, partner organizations, and all of you.

We took an active role to try to ensure every Marylander, especially those most underserved, has a seat at the table of opportunity. From landmark investments in education - through the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future and major new investment in our state’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities - to nation-leading policing reforms, and from key advancements around worker protections to important steps forward on criminal justice reform and the environment, leadership and allies in the General Assembly accomplished big things this session. But we know there’s still much more work to be done. Next year and in the years to come, Strong Future Maryland will continue to fight for more progress and we hope you’ll join us.

I want to thank you personally, and I look forward to creating a more just, equitable and prosperous Maryland together.

John B. King Jr.
Founder, Strong Future Maryland
10th U.S. Secretary of Education under President Obama
