John,
The High Holidays are a singularly meaningful time when we come together to reflect on our own actions, as well as our values. It’s the values of welcoming the stranger and protecting the refugee that guide our work here at HIAS.
During these days of contemplation, we keep in our minds the more than 70 million displaced people, refugees and asylum seekers across the world who face unimaginable struggles as they flee violence and persecution. HIAS remains as committed as ever to providing them with the support they need to build new lives in safety.
As we begin this new year, a group of three generous donors has offered to match every dollar donated during the High Holidays up to our $150,000 goal. That's why, during this special time, we’re counting on you to make your first gift and double your impact for refugees and asylum seekers before this match opportunity expires.
Every day, all year long, HIAS is on the front lines working with refugees wherever we’re needed most – from the southern U.S. border to countries around the world. Hitting this fundraising goal in honor of the High Holidays will ensure that we can continue advocating for refugees and asylum seekers, especially now as the administration is pursuing a drastic decrease in the number of refugees allowed to be resettled in the United States.
But it all depends on the generous support of people like you. So please, we’re counting on you to recommit to our shared values today by making your first gift and having every dollar DOUBLED toward helping those fleeing persecution and violence.
Thank you for all you do to make our work possible. From all of us here at HIAS, best wishes to you and your family for a happy new year.
