The window to prevent famines in places like Yemen and Nigeria is rapidly closing. The number of malnutrition cases we’re seeing is increasing, families are falling deeper into extreme poverty and the pandemic continues to alter the course of millions of children’s lives.
In too many places around the world, children are experiencing the combined crises of food scarcity, economic uncertainty, violent conflict and
the COVID-19 pandemic. Lives are in danger and futures could be lost if conditions worsen and famines are declared. And declaration of famine simply means that we all have failed to act in time to stop preventable deaths.
