Our hardworking legislators have been in session for a few months now and they've been getting a lot done! This week is Black Maternal Health week and several of our Incumbent Featured Candidates introduced a collection of bills, the NC Momnibus Act, aimed at improving the care of and lives of mothers in North Carolina. This effort was spearheaded by Sen. Natalie Murdock and Rep. Julie von Haefen with the support of many of our incumbent Featured Candidates, who are also sponsoring the bills. Since we know that women of color face discrimination in our health care systems this bill will particularly help Black mothers and other mothers of color in our state.

Two of the bills in the Momnibus Act aim at making sure people giving birth have better access to care during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Momnibus Act also aims to provide funding for community organizations that dispense information and assistance to pregnant people. Lastly, this bill makes expansions to Medicaid and mandates healthcare providers take implicit bias training to work towards ending the discrimination faced by Black women seeking healthcare. We are so proud that work of our incumbent Featured Candidates!
