Marcela is truly an embodiment of what it means to elect movement organizers into office. She was on a hunger strike while the State budget was being negotiated to ensure that excluded and essential workers received the funding they deserve, and she brings to Albany an urgent fight for transformational change that echoes Dianne’s own. Marcela’s work is exactly the type of politics we need to bring to every level of New York City and State.
As the Assemblymember for the 51st Assembly District, which includes Red Hook, Sunset Park and parts of Bay Ridge, Marcela knows what it’s like to organize and fight to bring justice and dignity to our communities. She’s been a tenant organizer for more than 10 years and played a central role in the passage of the 2019 Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act, and as a former undocumented immigrant, she’s the first Peruvian-American proudly serving in the state legislature.
We are so proud and honored to have Marcela by our side in this fight for transformational change — and we’re honored that you’re in this right alongside us. Will you help us out today by rushing a donation to make sure our movement continues to grow?
