The best way to prevent an argument from boiling over is to accuse less and explain more. That's why every single therapist recommends using "I" more than "you." Phrases like “You always” or “You never” immediately put the other person on the defensive. The “You” is immediately accusatory. “I”, on the other hand, is not. Dipping into the first person lets you comment on how you feel about someone’s actions and makes the impact clearer without assigning blame. No, this doesn't mean you should say "I feel that your point sucks." Rather, it means you need to be more conscious about your point of view.
