Many of you know that we just announced our first round of endorsements.
But what you might not know is that one of those candidates -- Shawn Lassiter -- is running in a special election for TX-6 on May 1. Less than one month away.
We believe that now more than ever, Texas deserves a leader who will protect them when they need it most.
Lassiter is focused on getting Texans back to work, safeguarding voting rights and improving access to health care. As only one of two Black Democrats running, Lassiter represents Texas' growing diversity, and she has the political courage to serve the people. She will fight for science-based policies that bring equity & prosperity to our communities -- from getting shots in arms to reopening our schools to tackling the climate crisis by investing in good-paying jobs. She is a teacher, a mom, and the perfect candidate for TX-06.
But at least two Republican contenders are already running ads on TV. Democrats in the district are worried about the possibility of getting locked out of the runoffs.
A recent polling memo warned that a Democratic lockout is a “real danger.” And this is particularly troubling because two of the Republican contenders -- are former Trump administration officials.
Right now, Shawn doesn't have the budget she needs to guarantee her spot in the runoff election -- and we're worried that if a Republican lockout happens, it could cost us the House majority next year.
