Dear John,
I hope you had a good week.
I’m back after unplugging for 10 days. It was a perfect spring break. Still lots of catching up to do, so I’m going to get straight to the digest. My favorite piece this week is the commentary from St. Paul City Councilor Mitra Jalali on “wtf just happened.” It hit me in my core. I’d love to hear how it resonated with you.
Here’s what we’re reading, watching, and listening to this week:

7. Community Care
St. Paul City Councilor Mitra Jalali wrote this incredibly powerful piece for Pollen Midwest called “wtf just happened to us.” Her ability to articulate the need for radical community care in response to violent, racialized capitalism is one of the reasons why she is a shero in this state. Read Jalali’s whole article and share it.

8. Line 5
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer ordered Enbridge to shut off its Line 5 pipeline by May 12. So far, the oil company hasn’t complied. Our government has a critical role in reining in unbridled corporate power that threatens people, land, and water. Read about the showdown that’s happening.
