President Biden just announced that his administration will create a commission to study expanding the Supreme Court, along with other judicial reform policies such as term limits.

The question is no longer if we will reform the Supreme Court, but how we will reform the Supreme Court.

This commission is a critical first step, but if we’re going to see this through, we must show the White House that the people want court expansion and judicial reform.

Trying to build a progressive future without taking action to rebalance the court would be like bringing a knife to a gunfight. Our democracy is in crisis. Our civil rights and civil liberties are on the line. It’s time we act like it.

Republicans in Congress will try to call this a power grab, but we must be clear that this is not about power — this is about protecting and repairing our democracy. This is not even an unprecedented move — the Supreme Court has been expanded seven times throughout history.
