Hello,

Welcome to my latest bulletin. Read on for my rapid update on the progress of the vaccine roll out so far, as well as the most recent developments as we continue to protect the country from Covid-19.

If you are over 50 or clinically extremely vulnerable, you are now being invited for vaccination. Your GP will contact you to offer an appointment. You may leave your house and travel out of area for your vaccine, as this is a medical appointment.
Around 32 million people have had their first dose, and 6 million people have received both doses!
3 in 5 adults vaccinated and another new vaccine rolling out!

Our vaccine rollout is storming ahead, with nearly 40 million people including 3 in 5 adults. Almost 95% of over-50s have had their first dose and 1 in 10 adults have also had their second jab, offering even more protection against the virus. The vaccine rollout has also been extended to those 50 years old and over as we continue to meet the target for all adults being offered the jab by the end of July.

If you are over 50 and have not yet received a jab and wish to do so, please contact your GP or phone 119 to book.

Our local and regional vaccination hubs are working hard, and Stockport borough has been able to vaccinate thousands of people locally, with particularly high uptake of the vaccination in our area. Further vaccination locations are opening every day with pharmacies joining the fight - local pharmacies have all stepped up to assist in the effort.

Hundreds of thousands of people continue to receive their jab every day, an outstanding effort from medical staff and those who are volunteering in the vaccine rollout.

With the news that we continue to lead the way in Europe for vaccination, this week we also began rolling out the Moderna vaccine. We have ordered 17 million doses that will be going out across the UK in the coming weeks. We are also ensuring vaccine security, signing deals to secure the production of 60 million Novavax doses to be made in the North East of England.

This week, both the European (EMA) and British (MHRA) vaccine regulators confirm that the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is safe and effective with the benefits far outweighing the risks for the overwhelming majority of adults.

The risk of a rare clot after the AstraZeneca vaccine is put at around 1 in 100,000 for those in their 20s, so other vaccines will be offered as a preference.

The change to advice for young people on choice of vaccine offered shows that our system works, and experts continue to advise everyone eligible to get the jab. We remain on track to offer a first jab to all adults by the end of July this year, so when you get the call inviting you for vaccination, please do take it up.

The Vaccine is our route to normal. And in the months since the beginning of the vaccine rollout, our healthcare staff have worked so hard alongside volunteers, logistics teams, vaccine manufacturers and Government to get millions of people protected. A big thank you to all!
50% of over-80s have now had both jabs - offering one of the most vulnerable groups even more protection against this virus

My Views

In addition to regular casework correspondence, I receive a number of campaign emails and postcards each month regarding various topics. While I always prefer to get back to people directly in the first instance, each month I publish these views on my website. You can read these here ([link removed]) .

Surgeries

I hold regular surgeries both at my office in Cheadle Hulme and around the constituency. In-person surgeries are suspended at the moment in the light of the current situation. However, my team and I will be assisting on all enquiries so please do continue to get in touch with us.
Thank you for taking the time to read my latest e-newsletter. As ever, if there are any issues you'd like to raise with me then please do get in touch.

Best wishes,
