Powerful change demands action

Powerful change demands action

Dear John,

How are you?

I’ve been focusing on the things that give me hope. As we enter the second week of Derek Chauvin’s trial for the murder of George Floyd, my community’s collective grief and rage continues. I know that we have what we need to support each other and ourselves through this. The people of Minneapolis are wise, bold, and resilient, and we know what we need to keep ourselves and our city safe from police violence in the future.

Our Leadership Assembly reaffirmed that knowledge last week when they announced an incredible slate of endorsements for Minneapolis City Council. They listened to and collaborated with community members to understand what the people of our city really need from elected officials: accountability, and the courage to lead us towards the safe, healthy future we deserve.

I feel hopeful because these endorsements are just a first step in moving these candidates into office – and because I’m sure that we have the collective power to get them there. Powerful change demands action, and I know that we’re ready to take it. We need to go to caucus and make our voices heard

Because of COVID-19 safety protocols, caucuses and conventions are completely virtual this year, making them more accessible than ever. I feel hopeful that more folks will be able to have a seat at the table and advocate for the candidates and policies we need. Learn about why going to caucuses and conventions is so important, and commit to becoming a delegate

There is so much at stake this year. We’ve got this.

In solidarity,

Jessie
