Stacey Abrams is fighting back against the GOP's wave of voter suppression laws -- and Republicans are getting worried.
For decades, Republicans have targeted Black and Brown voters with gerrymandering, purging voter rolls, and restrictive legislation. But now, over 300 voter suppression bills have been introduced in state legislatures across the country, and the GOP has made it clear they will stop at nothing to keep Black voters from going to the polls.
Republicans in Congress are actively speaking against H.R.1 -- a bill that would expand voting rights, make it easier to vote, and give more Americans access to the polls. Instead, in states like Georgia, Republicans had made it illegal to offer water to people waiting in line to vote -- all while claiming it is necessary for “election security.”
We sure don't think that forcing thirsty people to wait in hours-long lines will improve our election security. Stacey Abrams, a champion for voting rights, has called this wave of voter suppression bills “Jim Crow 2.0.” We agree with her. Republicans are pushing harder than ever, but we believe Stacey Abrams is the right leader to take them on.
