Woke Capitalism Strikes Again in Georgia – All of the statements from MLB to Atlanta-based Coca-Cola to Delta Air Lines suggest they didn’t even read the Georgia law and just copied and pasted dishonest Democratic talking points in their press statements. There are no specific critiques, just vague references to supposed voter suppression. The bigger issue here is not just about the election integrity law, as important as that is. Instead, it’s the transformation of big business into an activist, aggressive sledge hammer that works on behalf of left-wing causes and threatens the polities of states when they pass laws the left doesn’t like. It’s happening even as big business turns a hypocritically blind eye to the egregious violation of rights that take place in communist China, a country they are often all too eager to do business with. Arkansas lawmakers override Hutchinson veto on transgender youth bill – The government has a compelling interest in protecting the health and safety of children. That's why states set age limits on piercings and tattoos and completely ban procedures like genital mutilation. Children with gender dysphoria should be treated according to the best scientific and medical evidence. But there is none that shows that puberty blockers produce mental health benefits. The vast majority (88% of girls and 98% of boys) of kids with gender dysphoria become comfortable with their bodies after going through puberty, while those who are put on experimental puberty blockers can experience lasting harms, like loss of fertility. Arkansas legislators have acted in the best interests of their state's children by protecting their bodies and minds. These are the principles in the Promise to America's Children and it's a precedent that other states should follow. Heritage expert: Emilie Kao
Pandemic teaches states to expand school choice – In addition to these nine states, dozens of others are considering measures to expand education freedom and opportunity to students. An unprecedented 29 states have already introduced similar measures this year that will create or expand vouchers, tax credit scholarships and education savings accounts, according to the Educational Freedom Institute. These measures are a swift rebuke to the teachers unions, who have not only stood in the way of education access during the pandemic, but have been the primary obstacles to education choice for decades. Baltimore’s Rogue Prosecutor Mosby Facing 3 Probes of Official Duties, Travel, Gifts – As the city’s top prosecutor, charged with enforcing the law as written, protecting the public, and lowering crime rates, Mosby has been a failure, just like all the other rogue prosecutors. In 2020, even though the FBI crime statistics aren’t yet available, news outlets report that there were 335 homicides in Baltimore. And even though some violent crimes in Baltimore fell compared to 2019, the 2019 numbers for violent crime resulted in Baltimore being one of the most dangerous cities in the United States. Whether the Baltimore City Democratic Central Committee or the Democratic Party of Maryland will decide not to endorse Mosby for reelection next time, as the party has done in Philadelphia regarding Krasner, remains to be seen. But one has to think that there are dozens of highly qualified prosecutors in Baltimore who could—and would—do a much better job than Mosby. Heritage experts: Zack Smith and Cully Stimson
Why Congress must 'cancel' the Davis-Bacon Act – It’s long-past time for Congress to cancel the Davis-Bacon Act and instead allow actual markets — instead of government bureaucrats and non-scientific methods — to determine market wages. Not only could this help reduce race-based wage differences, it would put an end to artificially-inflated wages, saving taxpayers billions of dollars annually and knocking more than $100 billion off of Mr. Biden’s $2 trillion debt-and-economic-destruction-driven infrastructure plan. U.S. Enters Multilateral Minefield in Indirect Nuclear Talks With Iran – The Biden administration unwisely has entered a diplomatic labyrinth designed by allies who seek an unconditional U.S. return to the flawed nuclear deal. To reach that goal, they are likely to pressure Washington into granting premature sanctions relief to Iran, which will empower and enable a predatory regime that has a long record of violating its nonproliferation obligations. The Biden administration would be wise to focus on relentlessly pressuring Iran until it agrees to a new nuclear agreement with stronger and longer restrictions, rather than succumbing to pressure from other parties to return to the deficient Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
