Hi team, Mike Espy here.
When I ran for Senate last year, I ran to be the "health care senator” because I wanted to solve this problem once and for all. And I’m still committed to that fight.
In a minute, I’m going to ask you to make a donation to The Fairness Project, one of the most successful organizations across the country fighting for, and winning, campaigns to expand health care -- even when Donald Trump was president. But first, let me tell you why this issue is so important to me, and how The Fairness Project has made real progress on it. [link removed]
Mississippi is one of 12 states that has not expanded Medicaid, putting partisan politics over common sense. Our leaders are leaving money on the table that would go directly towards delivering care to those in need.
This is personal to me. My grandfather built the first hospital in Mississippi serving Black patients, in 1924.
And I’ve seen firsthand how health care is a racial justice issue. Over 130,000 Black Mississippians don’t have health insurance -- but would have access to care if we expanded Medicaid.
But here’s the good news: my friends at The Fairness Project are making real progress on health care and other important issues for so many Americans.
They’ve expanded Medicaid in 6 red and purple states by running people-powered ballot initiative campaigns that go around partisan politics and let the people decide for themselves.
And they’re just getting started.
They’re looking into more campaigns to expand Medicaid, potentially including my home state of Mississippi, as well as other campaigns to raise wages, guarantee paid leave, and make real change directly at the ballot box.
But they need our help. The special interests always spend BIG against them, and partisan politicians are already trying to silence the will of the people and make it harder to win these ballot initiative campaigns.
Can you contribute to The Fairness Project to help them respond to the attacks and win more campaigns for health care across the country? They're truly one of my favorite progressive organizations out there today, so I hope you'll consider making a contribution.

According to some metrics, my home state of Mississippi is the least healthy state in the country.
Yet the politicians who are supposed to represent us have ignored the health of our neighbors. They’d rather play political games than help those in need.
That’s why I ran for the U.S. Senate and it’s why I’m still fighting for health care and justice for all.
And that’s why I’m proud to be supporting The Fairness Project, and I hope you’ll consider making a contribution to power their work: cutting through the partisan noise and winning ballot initiative campaigns to expand health care and change lives.

Together, we’ll continue to move our country forward. Thanks for being in the fight.
