For those in Washington who favor out-of-control government spending, theCOVID crisis has been a smoke screen to encourage out-of-control spending andentitlements. Some believe the recently passed $1.9 COVID relief bill to bethe most fundamental boost to the welfare state since President LyndonJohnson's Great Society measures and President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal.

For all the problems that face our country, excessive government spending isthreatening our country's future viability – we at

strongly oppose passage of billsthat increase our debt ceiling.

Excessive spending causes the decline of the fiscal health of the federalgovernment and can lead to grave national security risks. This in turn reduceseconomic freedom and threatens prosperity.

For years, economists have warned lawmakers that high deficits and debt levelseventually would lead to economic collapse. When our government isconsistently spending more than it receives in taxes, the debt service becomesthe nation’s largest budget item, meaning there is no security for Americanseniors.

By fiscal year 2019, the federal government was spending $1 trillion per yearmore in inflation-adjusted terms than it had 10 years earlier. In fiscal year2020, the federal government added nearly another $2 trillion of new spendingin response to the pandemic, raising the national debt to 100 percent of ournational income. This year, at least another trillion dollars of new spendingappears to be on the way.

It's time for action from all concerned conservative citizens. Here at
