Hello:
NY Times: “A growing number of lawmakers have demonstrated less interest in passing laws and more in using their powerful perches to build their own political brands and stoke outrage among their opponents. The trend has contributed to the deep dysfunction on Capitol Hill.”
We've seen it in action, all year. Marjorie Taylor Greene has obstructed more legislation than she's introduced. She moved to adjourn Congress to delay a vote on the Equality Act -- and pulled the same stunt to block a vote on the COVID-19 relief bill. And when her efforts were denied? Over a dozen Republicans skipped the vote altogether anyway -- to attend Donald Trump's speech at CPAC.
MSNBC's Steve Benen said it best: “These GOP representatives want to be pundits who happen to occasionally vote on federal legislation, not actual federal policymakers.”
And the thing is, that seems to be exactly what Republicans want. Right-wing extremists like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Madison Cawthorn, who've done little for their constituents and much for their ratings, are raising millions to stay right where they are -- all while the GOP works to get more of them into the House.
Listen, we can either act now to fund Democrats and ensure that we protect our razor-thin House majority with leaders who will fight for their communities -- or we can watch as Republicans fill the Hill with more publicity-hungry GOPers like Marjorie Taylor Greene who don't want to do their job.
We need all Democrats on board if we're going to unseat Greene, Cawthorn, and every right-wing Republican hiding in Congress. We know we can win -- you've shown us collective action works. But we're getting worried you're no longer with us -- because while Republicans are lining their pockets with grassroots donations -- we're more than $6,031 short of our end of month grassroots goal.
