I’m running for Congress with a platform built on the pillars of love, empathy, and hope -- because I know that’s how we will find our way forward together.

I’ll explain in a moment, but first I need to ask if you’ll chip in $5 to meet my goal of raising $25,000 before my first-ever FEC public filing deadline.

Love is the basis of what we do, folks. That’s why I founded the Campaign for Southern Equality. That’s why our team pushed for LGBTQ+ equality in the Deep South at a time when others said it was hopeless. Because we knew that when you organize from a foundation of love, then purpose, courage, and ultimately results follow.

I showed up. I listened. I walked side-by-side with couples who made the brave choice to publicly apply for marriage licenses in their hometowns. By leading with love, we won -- we helped win marriage equality in North Carolina and Mississippi.

I took the same approach when I won a tough election and became a Buncombe County Commissioner. From my first day in office, people shared their stories -- from struggling to balance work & childcare to the painful burdens of experiencing racism as a daily part of life to the unbearable heartbreak of losing a child to an opioid overdose. And then they’d ask a very direct question: what are you going to do to help?

I showed up. I listened. I worked side-by-side with community members and my fellow Commissioners -- including three Republicans -- to expand access to pre-K programs, allocate funding for racial justice work, and create new addiction treatment programs with 6-1 and 7-0 margins.

My Republican opponent Madison Cawthorn has doubled down on using lies, publicity stunts, and hate speech as tactics for representing our district and seeking reelection.

But he’s got it wrong. Our people-powered campaign will prove that love, empathy, and hope can win elections and, more than that, bring real results to our district in the form of policies that truly help people.

If you’re with me, I’m asking you to chip in $5 before my first FEC deadline.
