TakeAction Minnesota Weekly Wrap

Dear John,

Lots of news happening – this week’s digest only scratches the surface. I didn’t include the viral story of the person who found a shrimp in their morning cereal. I wonder if the press attention on this story means we’re returning to some sort of normalcy on the Internet.

LyLy’s off on her next career calling, though she contributed to this week’s digest. I’m off next week for break but will be back on April 8th with a new co-author. Stay tuned. Loved getting your notes these past few weeks.

Here’s what we’re reading, watching, and listening to this week:

1. SHOTS!

ICYMI: All adults in Minnesota will be eligible for the vaccine starting next week. Read the good news.

2. Care Economy

President Biden’s next recovery bill has unprecedented investments in care infrastructure, including childcare and universal pre-k. Read about the $3 trillion plan in the Washington Post.

3. Georgia

Republicans in Georgia passed a massive, horrific voter suppression bill this week. Stacey Abrams called it Jim Crow in a suit and tie. Read this Twitter thread and learn more about the voter suppression bill.

4. Generational Wars

Loved this article. Read why generational wars serve no one.

5. No Fracking

You get what you organize for. Celebrate the uplifting grassroots organizing efforts against a fracking project in Texas.

6. Guaranteed Income

It works. Get a deep dive into the Magnolia’s Mothers Trust, a guaranteed income demonstration program, and learn about how impactful it’s been, particularly for Black moms.

7. U.S. History

This is an excellent piece on the history of policing in the United States. Read it now or bookmark for when you’re ready to dive in.

8. Paid Leave

We deserve paid leave to care for each other, and for ourselves. Read about how New Zealand just approved paid leave for parents after experiencing miscarriage.

9. Volcano

I watched this video of a volcano erupting in Iceland on repeat. Nerd out over this fiery clip.

10. Cat Video

Cute kitten discovers its paw. Enjoy this adorable cat video.

That’s a wrap. Send me what you're reading.
