DeKalb County Commissioner of Super District 6, how can the residents of DeKalb County support Representative Park Cannon?

(DeKalb County, GA) March 26, 2021 - In response to Georgia state troopers arresting state Rep. Park Cannon yesterday as she knocked on Gov. Brian Kemp's door, interrupting his announcement that he had signed an elections bill into law has residents of DeKalb County enraged and are reminded of days of Jim Crow.

The Voter Suppression Bill, Senate Bill 202, legislation to impose new ID requirements, limit drop boxes, and other election restrictions. Along with many elected to serve the people, the DCCSD6 stands in solidarity against SB 202, what it represents and how it affects the right and choice to vote.

RE: Official statement on behalf of Commissioner Terry

"The aggressive action to arrest State Representative Park Cannon is troubling and disheartening behavior. We cannot condone the suppression of Freedom of Speech at this level. The actions at yesterday's Capitol not only defies our 1st amendment but also challenges how many see what can be perceived, in peaceful protest, as unnecessary "use of force" and maltreatment of a Black female legislator and civic servant. Voter Suppression has been fought against for centuries, and the fight remains.

I support and thank those at the Capitol that are courageous and committed to fighting for this freedom. Constituents are outraged and can get involved by visiting Fair Fight Action, ACLU of Georgia, or Election Protection Coalition."
