John —

I’m reaching out today to ask you to make a contribution to my campaign, if your circumstances allow, before our first FEC quarterly fundraising deadline — which is one week from today. My team has set a goal to raise $50,000 by then.

Let me explain why a contribution — of any amount — will make a huge difference for our movement (but if you’re ready to give, you can use this link: secure.actblue.com/donate/mj-em-march-2021).

The House has passed a lot of very important legislation this quarter. The For The People Act will save our democracy, end right-wing gerrymandering of Congressional districts, and make every aspect of our elections — from running for office to supporting political candidates — more accessible for the average American.

The American Dream and Promise Act will finally give our Dreamers a path to citizenship. The PRO Act will protect our workers and the right to organize. The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act will help to end systemic racism in law enforcement. Two bills have passed that will mandate background checks for all gun purchases and close loopholes that made it possible for dangerous people to bypass them and acquire weapons.

Right now, all of these bills and many more are at a standstill due to the Jim Crow filibuster in the Senate — but that doesn’t mean we have no shot at getting them signed into law.

Our movement is about more than one bill, one legislator, or one issue. It is about sustained pressure on both houses of Congress and the White House to enact policy that levels the playing field for working people and brings opportunity and justice to communities that have long been overlooked by politicians.

And we are making progress. The Jim Crow filibuster used to be considered par for the course by the vast majority of legislators in both parties. More and more Democrats are now coming to realize how destructive it has become, due to Mitch McConnell’s master manipulations.

I’m working hard in Congress to keep up the pressure and help pass more progressive legislation that would change the game for working people, but I can’t ignore the reality that we could very soon face a primary challenge — and anyone who considers challenging this movement is going to take a very close look at our first quarterly fundraising report of the cycle.

Last year, our people-powered movement emerged victorious in a crowded primary field that included many better-funded candidates, including a self-funding billionaire and several backed by special interests. We have to expect that could happen again and prepare accordingly.

If you can, please make a donation today to help us hit our $50,000 end-of-quarter goal so that I can remain focused on championing progressive priorities. We cannot wait until a challenger announces to start preparing for the next election.

I’m confident that our people-powered movement will win again this cycle — but only with your help.

Onward,
Mondaire
