State lawmakers in Arizona are advancing a bill that would not only criminalize abortion — it would allow doctors who provide abortion care to be brought up on felony charges and thrown in jail. 1

If passed, this bill would lock ideological language into law granting a fetus the same rights as that of a person, which could threaten doctors with jail time for providing patients the care they need; ban public institutions from providing abortion care, counseling, or referrals; and impose an abortion ban that requires doctors to interrogate their patients about why they're seeking abortion care or risk being thrown in jail.

NARAL Pro-Choice America is fighting back in Arizona and other key states where our fundamental rights are under attack — but we need you with us in this urgent moment. This is just one of many extreme anti-choice bills that Arizona lawmakers are trying to pass in the state legislature. But they’re not alone in their out-of-touch, dangerous obsession with restricting reproductive freedom.

In 2021, anti-choice extremists have already introduced, moved, or passed 225+ attacks on abortion access in state legislatures across the country. Now that Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh have solidified a supermajority on the Supreme Court hostile towards reproductive freedom, the Radical Right is hoping their onslaught of attacks will go all the way to the top — and overturn the protections afforded by Roe v. Wade forever.
