Stand Up Republic’s mission is to defend and strengthen American democracy. That mission requires us to be both vigilant and proactive, looking for new ways to improve and strengthen our nation. The last four years taught us how fragile our democracy is, and new legislation is required to protect our democracy.

To protect our democratic republic, we must protect the right to vote against a wave of voter suppression laws, improve access to the polls, strengthen Executive Branch accountability, reassert Congress’ oversight role and its power of the purse, secure our elections, and enhance campaign finance transparency.

That is why in 2021 Stand Up Republic is prioritizing three key pieces of legislation which will help shield our democracy from some of today’s greatest threats.

This year, Stand Up Republic is working to advance:

1. The For the People Act
2. The Voting Rights Advancement Act
3. The Protecting Our Democracy Act

If these three bills are passed by Congress and signed into law, they would institute the most comprehensive pro-democracy reforms our country has seen in a generation. Many people talk about protecting our democracy and defending our institutions. These bills are where the rubber meets the road, and how we turn rhetoric into reform.

We need your help to advocate for the passage of these bills in Congress. Here’s how you can start taking action today.

• Schedule a meeting with your members of Congress or their staff while they are home for in-district/in-state work the next two weeks (March 29th - April 9th).
• Call your representative and senators (202) 224-3121 and urge them to protect voting rights by supporting the Voting Rights Advancement Act and the For the People Act.
