Examine the clauses of the 14th Amendment and the battle over their meaning from Reconstruction to the Supreme Court’s landmark decision on marriage equality in Obergefell. Discuss America’s first and second civil rights movements, the Constitution and women, and modern interpretations of the 14th Amendment. The Bill of Rights In this session, students study the Bill of Rights—its rights, its protections and limitations on government—and the process by which it was discussed, debated, and ratified. Students will also explore how the Bill of Rights affects them today.
