We are devastated after 8 people were killed--six of them Asian women--in attacks last night in the Atlanta area.
Gun violence is a grim fact of life in America. And tragically, the chances you might become a victim of a shooting often hinge on your race, ethnicity, or neighborhood. This tragedy in and around Atlanta is unfolding amid a disturbing increase in bigotry and violence againstAsian-Americans.
But it doesn't have to be this way. We deserve a future and a country where bigotry is no longer emboldened and hate is no longer armed.
Congress must act and pass meaningful gun safety legislation into law. The policies we know can make a difference have broad, bipartisan support nationwide. They can save lives in the neighborhoods, cities, and communities that need action on safety the most. We have never been more unified as a country around the need for action.
Which is why today, we have to ask you to speak up:
Add your name today and tell the Senate they must bring the universal background check legislation that just passed the House up for a vote immediately. We cannot afford to wait for lawmakers to address this hateful national public safety threat.

Our country's history is stained with stories of racism and violence that continues to this day. Together, we must build a safer future free from hate and violence.
It's on all of us to fight for the lives that were cut short because of the actions of one violent individual. We must honor their memories with action--not just thoughts and prayers.
And with every day that the Senate fails to act upon this crisis, they allow the gun violence epidemic to continue.
