John,

North Carolinians Against Gun Violence Action Fund strongly opposes the Second Amendment Protection Act (H.B.134), passed on Thursday, March 11 by the NC House because it would legalize carrying concealed firearms at religious places of worship with associated schools and exempt certain on duty emergency medical services personnel while working with SWAT teams from NC’s concealed carry prohibition.

We need your help to stop H.B.134 from reaching the governor’s desk or getting a veto if it does. Can you donate today to fuel our grassroots campaign to prevent H.B. 134 from ever becoming a law?

Current law helps protect children by prohibiting concealed firearms at all schools, including religious places of worship that have an associated school. H.B.134 would remove this protection, needlessly putting school children at increased risk.

The EMS exemption from concealed carry is fraught with danger. Emergency personnel need to focus on providing medical care, not worrying about using a firearm or wondering if it is stored securely. Further, knowing that EMS personnel may be armed risks making individuals less likely to seek emergency help, especially in communities distrusting of armed officers. It’s a damaging message: a call for emergency medical help might lead to someone getting shot by the very people providing emergency care.

Please give what you can to prevent this dangerous bill from ever becoming a law.

Thank you for your support,
Becky
