That's what Cashauna Hill, executive director of the Louisiana Fair Housing Action Center ([link removed]) , said in a recent article ([link removed]) about working to remove barriers facing New Orleanians in need of housing.

An estimated 140,000 families in Louisiana are facing the possibility of eviction because of the pandemic, with households headed by Black women disproportionately affected. But it's not just a matter of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Hill says that nearly 60% of eviction proceedings in the city of New Orleans are filed against Black women" ([link removed])
Unfair screening practices are confounding the crisis as they prevent potential tenants from finding housing. Formerly incarcerated people and people with criminal records, as well as people who have been involved in eviction proceedings regardless of the outcome, face heightened barriers and even blanket bans when seeking housing.

While vaccines may soon bring the pandemic to an end, many of our neighbors are still in difficult situations. Forward Together New Orleans is working to provide solutions. You can help us by donating to the Mayor's Rental Assistance Fund ([link removed]) .
