The Senate filibuster is a controversial tactic in our politics. It makes it so a simple majority is not enough to get critical pieces of legislation passed. Republicans continue to use it as leverage to defeat some great bills. With our Senate split 50-50, the filibuster is going to make it really hard to pass our big ticket agenda items.
When it was convenient to his agenda, McConnell abolished the filibuster to push Trump’s far-right Supreme Court picks through. Now, with Democrats in power, he wants to use the legislative filibuster to stop our biggest bills.

The filibuster was never written into the Constitution, and it doesn’t have to be in place. We know McConnell is only using it now to stop Biden’s agenda from getting enacted.
He even admitted it in a speech on the Senate floor. He threatened to hold up proceedings until Democrats agreed to keep the filibuster!
