Have you seen the new voter suppression laws being passed in Georgia, John?
Far-right Republicans are so upset that Georgians voted for Democrats for president and both Senate seats that they’re pulling out all the stops in their new voter suppression campaign. In addition to eliminating no-excuse absentee voting, they’re now requiring new forms of voter ID for those who do have an excuse to vote by mail.
The unfortunate truth is that Georgia has always been a hotbed for voter suppression, and laws like this aren't going away any time soon. In 2017, 80% of the voters blocked by Georgia’s "exact match" law were people of color. And in 2018, Georgia's voter registration deadline (one of the strictest in the country) kept an estimated 87,000 people from voting.
Make a donation now to help us fight back against voter suppression by registering new voters in Georgia and all over the country.
When the margins are this close, these laws can make all the difference:
Joe Biden won by 0.24% (11,799 votes)
Jon Ossoff won by 1.2% (55,232 votes)
Raphael Warnock won by 2% (93,550 votes) |
That’s why we’re working so hard to register as many new voters as possible. In the 2020 election cycle, we registered over 35,000 new voters in Georgia and made sure thousands more got to the polls in both the general and the runoff. Those voters will keep making a difference in the future, and we’ll be continuing our work in the state for the 2022 cycle.
But none of our work is possible without grassroots supporters like you, John. So if you’re able, please pitch in today to help us keep registering voters and fight back against Republican voter suppression:
