John —
Earlier this month, I helped to pass the landmark For the People Act in the House. The bill would save and strengthen our democracy by making it harder to suppress the right to vote, enacting automatic voter registration, ending right-wing gerrymandering of Congressional districts, and allowing public campaign financing so that Congressional seats aren’t sold to the highest bidder.
Now it goes to the Senate, where Republicans have no intention of letting it pass. One Republican Senator recently stated, "Everything about this bill is rotten to the core. It was written in Hell by the Devil himself."
Republican officials don’t want to make it easier for Americans to vote because they’re enjoying their status as the gatekeepers of our democracy. Making it difficult to vote and then diluting the power of each vote through partisan gerrymandering are the only ways they’ll continue to maintain disproportionate power.
It’s ironic, since the GOP claims to be the party that adheres strictly to the Constitution. Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution states: “The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government” – and “republican” in this context means “a state in which supreme power is held by the people.”
It’s time for Congress to secure this constitutional guarantee through strengthening our democracy. The Senate must end the filibuster, pass the For the People Act, and keep our democracy intact.
Onward,

Our campaign’s first FEC quarterly fundraising filing deadline is coming up at the end of the month. Any potential opponent is going to look closely to see what this movement can achieve.
