While Josh Hawley has said he “isn't going anywhere,” his fellow senator from Missouri, Roy Blunt, sure is.

With Sen. Blunt's recent announcement that he will not be seeking re-election in 2022, he joined the growing number of GOP leaders who opted to avoid facing their increasingly radical base of voters at the polls.

Here's the problem -- Blunt's retirement opens the door for even more extreme candidates to vie for his Senate seat. Even worse, Josh Hawley's success in catering to his constituents' demand for conspiracies is now a blueprint that candidates will have to use in order to win.

The good news? The GOP's intra-party rat race towards extremism might just work in our favor. Democrats have popular candidates considering a Senate run, and with the kind of organizing and grassroots mobilization we saw take place in Arizona, Georgia and Pennsylvania in 2020, we have a real opportunity to prevent another Josh Hawley clone representing Missouri in the Senate.

Unfortunately, CPAC's immense success has shown Republicans that extremism is a fundraising gold mine, so we're looking at yet another election cycle where Republicans use misinformation and conspiracy peddling to successfully fund their campaigns. That being said, we're still incredibly optimistic about our chances -- if we can count on your support.
