Team –
In most states today, it is still legal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. Too many LGBTQ Americans can be denied employment, education, credit, jury service, federal funding, housing, and public accommodations because of who they are or who they love.
That’s why I introduced the Equality Act all the way back in 2015 to provide the same protections already extended to other protected classes to LGBTQ Americans – and why I was honored to introduce it in every Congress since. Equality for our LGBTQ communities is long past due.
This week, the House of Representatives passed the Equality Act for the 117th Congress to the Senate, moving us one step closer to the goal of full equality in this country.
Now is our chance to ban anti-LGBTQ discrimination in virtually all aspects of daily life once and for all. Will you sign on to this petition and demand the Senate pass the Equality Act immediately?
The Equality Act would fill the loopholes in existing federal civil rights legislation by providing comprehensive protections for LGBTQ people across employment, housing, credit, education, public spaces and services, and more.
Every American should be treated with dignity and respect. It’s shameful that in 2021, LGBTQ Americans are still fighting for their civil rights.
We have an unprecedented opportunity to make history here. Even though the Equality Act passed the House with bipartisan support in 2019, Mitch McConnell never brought it to a vote in the Senate! Joe Biden has pledged his support for the bill already – so now is the time to get this done!
The Senate must follow the House of Representatives in finally passing the Equality Act – and end discrimination for the LGBTQ community once and for all.
Thanks for taking action!
