Friend, Our sisters and brothers in Haiti are facing a daily struggle to survive amid a political crisis that has brought their country’s economy and government to a halt. Yet almost every day for the past two weeks ICE has put Haitian refugees seeking asylum in the U.S. on planes back to Haiti. These flights have included infants and children. This despite President Biden’s promise to halt deportations. Add your voice to the call to end the deportation of Haitian refugees Worse, the Biden Administration has continued to support Jovenel Moïse, who has ruled Haiti by decree for the past year, suspended elections, attacked protestors and journalists, faced widespread protests against corruption, kidnapping and gang violence, and decided to hold onto power after his term in office ended. The Haitian Catholic Bishops, Federation of Protestant Churches, and Bar Association, along with leading Congresspeople have called for a return to democracy in Haiti. The Biden Administration’s decision to ignore these pleas while continuing to deport Haitian refugees is wrong and short-signed. Please join us in sending emails to President Biden, Vice-President Harris, and Secretary of State Blinken demanding that they stop deporting Haitians and start supporting democracy and human rights in Haiti. Tell President Biden to stop deporting Haitians and start supporting democracy in Haiti For the past five years, Faith in Action International has supported grassroots organizing in Haiti. We believe in the capacity of Haitians to lead their country on a path to sustainable development and democracy. They need to know that the U.S. government stands on the side of the Haitian people and not corrupt elites. Thank you for your support. Fr.
