John,

Did you know that some NC General Assembly members want to let EMS personnel carry concealed weapons while on duty with law enforcement? Unbelievable.

A bill to do just that is set to be considered in the House Judiciary 3 Committee on Wednesday. Can you take a quick minute to email committee members voicing your opposition to HB 48?

This bill is dangerous. EMS personnel’s responsibility is to respond to emergencies and deliver medical care. The police are responsible for public safety during emergencies, not EMS. EMS response should entirely focus on providing care, not worrying about using their weapon or even worrying about keeping it secure. That’s why we have police. Further, knowing that EMS responders may be armed may make individuals fearful to seek help when it is needed, especially in communities where distrust of armed officers is already high.

Please take a minute to email House Judiciary 3 Committee members BEFORE WEDNESDAY to tell them that HB 48 will make emergency situations more dangerous and not safer.

Thank you,
Becky

P.S. Here is more information about the problems with this bill.
