My name's Ali Sait, and I'm finishing up high school here in Austin -- but I've been around political leaders for a while now, as an Intern in a Democratic Congressional office, and now as a member of the Comms team on Julie's grassroots team.

To our generation -- "generation lockdown" some call us -- the fight for progressive change has really taken on new urgency. We are the generation that has grown up with the trauma and near-constant anxiety of school lockdown drills. We are the generation who is facing a future that humanity has never known -- a generation that will have to live with the consequences of man-made climate change, through more extreme weather, disastrous storms like Harvey and Imelda as our new normal, rising sea levels and diminishing Arctic sea ice threatening human survival.

And so our generation has been left with little choice but to fully engage more politically, because the generations before us have not taken responsibility for themselves.

In a moment, I’m going to ask you to make a contribution to Julie's campaign, but first let me explain what this historic campaign means to me. We’re running a campaign to restore democracy to the people in this district.

I support Julie because she believes in the progressive changes this district so desperately needs. As a young person, I share Julie’s goals because my generation will be living with the effects of a burning planet, a sick population, and abusive economic practices, unless we implement changes now.

What’s more? This campaign is 100% powered by people -- there are no PACs or lobbyists or special interests involved. Just people like you, me, and the very real challenges facing us and our solutions for them.

More than half the money our campaign raises comes in from fundraising emails just like this one. That’s why this movement is so important to me. Not only can we end the gun lobby's grip on our Congressional policy, not only can we finally face the global threat of climate change head on -- the campaign is exciting to me because we have the opportunity to change the way politics is done in this country.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed in this time of political turmoil, but we have a real chance to reform our system. I hope you can help us out, so we can stay on track.
