There’s a reason why we continue to emphasize 2022.
John—by now, you’ve likely heard us emphasize over and over again the importance of getting ready for the 2022 midterm elections.
There’s a reason why we do this: the midterms are a lot closer than they seem. Plans are already underway for what’s bound to be one of the most important midterm elections of our lifetime. And GOP officials have already announced their plan to take back the Senate and House; the National Republican Congressional Committee even rolled out a list of representatives they’re going to target in 2022 (which includes Rep. Porter).
With all of this in mind, it’s important that we’re doing everything we can to make sure the Democratic majority is defended.
So today, we wanted to share with you what it takes to build a political campaign—before the donation asks, debates, and door-knocking. But before we do, will you please chip in $3 to Truth to Power and help power our strategy to win big for working families and progressive causes in 2022?

There’s no shortage of things that candidates and campaigns must do before they announce their campaign to supporters and voters. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Determining the type of office you want to run for.
- Discussing the time commitment and financial opportunity costs of running (and serving in office) with your loved ones and employer (unless you’re one of the way-too-many millionaires deciding to run for office).
- Filling out and filing lots (and lots) of paperwork to officially register your campaign and get your name on the ballot.
- Developing your platform and core messaging points.
- Analyzing data to determine the amount of votes you need to win, and the amount of money you’ll need to fundraise to keep your campaign strong and viable—all while remaining compliant with campaign finance laws.
- Finding, vetting, and hiring a team of experienced organizers, finance experts, fundraisers, schedulers, and volunteers.
- Creating a campaign website and establishing a strong social media presence.
- Doing all of the above early enough to establish enough name recognition to remain competitive in your election...while raising enough money to keep you, your staff, and your campaign afloat.
While there isn’t a one-size-fits-all timeline for all these steps, one thing is clear across the 28 campaigns we’ve worked with in the 2020 cycle: Running a strong campaign that is responsive to voters and supporters is incredibly important—and establishing such a campaign takes many, many months of dedication and early support.
And that’s why we’re hustling as hard as we can right now, John. Our top priority is to raise money now for early resources that will support as many progressive candidates as possible in 2022—fully understanding that great campaigns don’t just happen overnight.
When a progressive challenger tosses their hat in the ring, we’re going to be there with as much support as possible. If you’re with us, will you please chip in $3 or whatever you can afford?
Thank you for all that you do,
Truth to Power PAC
