Aid distributions today, mass call tomorrow

Howdy Comrade,

We hope we've all made it through the worst of this crisis, though we know there will be so much to do on the flip side. Most people should have power now, though frozen pipes is a whole other story.

From what we know, best estimate on Houston's boil water notice is that it should be lifted by the end of the day on Monday - but that's still 4 days of boiling water at a full rolling boil for 2 minutes. Roads should be melted today though there could be hazards and stoplights out of power. Check Transtar for the most up-to-date road closure information.

Tonight's Socialists of Color Virtual Happy Hour is rescheduled for next Thursday.

Today, Houston DSA is working with Say Her Name TX and Mutual Aid HOU to put on two aid distributions at 12pm, one at Kelly Village (3118 Green St 77020) and one in Second Ward (318 Sampson St 77003). Bring donations or volunteer to help distribute from 11:30am to 12:00 either of the two locations. If you need supplies, distribution will happen at noon. You can check out and share this thread on Twitter, which has the list of needed supplies.

If you want to donate money right now, we recommend giving to West Street Recovery or Mutual Aid HOU.

Houston and Texas comrades along with the national Green New Deal Campaign Committee have also put together a "Texas Freeze 101" mass call at 2pm tomorrow. They'll cover how we got here—power deregulation, privatization, ERCOT, power supply failure, and more—and how ecosocialism can build us a path forward. Invite any friends who are asking the same question we are: How did this happen, and what comes next?

Solidarity — we can only make it through this together.
